Paintshop Pro X3 Photo Masking
I figured out how to photo mask with Maggies instructions for Paint. For some reason I cannot do it now by those instructions. I have searched the internet and by surprise I only found one tutorial on it and I cannot get that to work either. Please help with instructions on photo masking. *hugs*

Shiann, the masking is done a little differently in Paintshop Pro than in Paint.
In Paint Shop Pro you need to open your photograph.
Click on Layers (at the top)
Choose Load/Save Mask and then click on
Load Mask from Disk.
Your Masks will show up.
Click on the mask of your choice. It will then mask your photo with that mask.
If the mask you want isn't listed check to make sure you have added the file to your "My PSP Files" in Documents.....It should be added to the Mask folder.
Once you have your photo masked, be sure and "save as" a .png file format to retain the transparency.

There are other ways to mask in PSP but I find that the easiest way.

Hope this helps.

If you need more help just ask.

hmmm.. This seems like it should be so easy yet I have such trouble. When I follow the directions, my photo and mask show a blank (transparent squares) box. Do you by chance know what I am doing wrong?

Your picture will have those gray and white squares wherever the mask has made the photo transparent. If you want to have it go to white, just go up to Layers and click on Merge .....Merge all (flatten).

My problem is, it isn't masking the photo. The entire workspace turns transparent. It doesn't show my photo or the photo mask. :(

AH HA! I can photo mask with any mask that is white. Some masks that I have bought have black inside, and those are the ones that do not mask. :(

Shiann, if the mask is black inside, go to layers and click on Invert. It will switch the black and the white for you. Make sure the mask layer is highlighted.

I feel so ignorant! I inverted it and the black turned white and not transparent. I guess I will go play with it awhile. I am tempted to download a different editing software lol. Thank you so much Maggie!
