Tess I prefer Photoshop Elements and/or Corel's Paint Shop Pro. You can do just about anything with either one. I just upgraded my Elements to version 9. Depending on the type of editing you do, both will do a great job if you want to make pages, restore old photos, just fix up new photos. Paint Shop Pro has the best scratch remover and the Animal Eye fix is super.

I love my Photoshop Elements 8. A lot of these photo editing software programs are the same yet different. Some are more simple than others. But, the more complicated, generally you are going to get more interesting effects once you learn it. But, the basis for all these programs really are similar. I started with simple programs and worked my way up to more complicated programs. I found that once I started on Photoshop, it wasn't so difficult had I just started with Photoshop...does that make sense? I started with free programs until I was ready for something more complicated.
