Featured Members
We get a lot of questions about how the featured members are chosen. So, we wanted to post the details. These are posted in the FAQ's as well.

There are 10 Featured Members at any one time and you are featured in 2 places on the site: your full profile appears in rotation on the Member's Page and your icon rotates on the Home Page (both link back to your Home Page). Featured Members are selected in 2 ways: (1) automatically for Scrapbook of the Week and Week's Funniest Scrapbook, and (2) by the site Editor for Editor's Choice. When you win Scrapbook of the Week or Week's Funniest Scrapbook, you become a Featured Member for 3 weeks. These automatic choices are made and refreshed every Sunday night at Midnight, U.S. East Coast time when the winners for Scrapbook of the Week and Week's Funniest Scrapbook are determined. Editor's Choice are typically featured for 1 week or until the Editor selects another Editor's Choice page.

To be selected as a Featured Member you must also meet 2 criteria: (1) you must have at least 3 public scrapbooks posted, (2) we prefer you have a photo of yourself (best) or original graphic for your screen icon.

When you win Scrapbook of the Week or Funniest Scrapbook of the Week, you are not eligible to win again for 90 days. You will see a striped bar underneath your name. You can scroll over the bar to see when you are eligible to win again. We do this to give more members a chance to win the Scrapbook of the Week awards.

Many people have asked how we choose Editor's Choice. We try to pick pages posted by members who have not received an Editor's choice award before and members who do not have a lot of awards as well as new members. We also try to choose pages that have been posted for at least a week so we do not affect that weeks scrapbook of the week and funniest scrapbook of the week awards.

Overall, we try to give all members an equal chance to win awards on the site.

Rae Ann, thanks so much for posting this - much appreciated!

I'd just like one point clarified, though, is someone who's gotten FSOTW or SOTW precluded from Editor's Choice for the 90 days, or will you still consider that member's pages for Editor's Choice?

Again, thanks so much for your clear explanation!

A member who has recently won either of the Scrapbook of the Week awards can still be considered for Editor's Choice. However, we try to feature members who have not won many awards.

Thanks, Rae Ann, and I think it's great that you try to be even-handed (and that the site's set up to only allow either Scrapbook of the Week or Funniest to be awarded only once every 90 days). :-)

I wonder why some people have 2 or even more ( saw someone having 4) editor choice awards while many others, being member for long time never got anyone. Even some new members ( lesser than 6 months) already have more than 1. I understand it`s not easy to make that choice every time again, but when I read "We try to pick pages posted by members who have not received an Editor's choice award before" I don`t know what to think about that. When I was new I thought my pages were not good enough.

If a member already has lots of awards, such as yourself, I usually don't give an Editor's choice award. I like to award them to members who do not win a lot of awards on their own. I have been trying to award newer members with the Editor's Choice. It is sometimes discouraging for new members that is so difficult to win the challenges or scrapbook of the week. I do sometimes break my own rules and award a member more than 1 award if I really like a page. Also, in the past I have run challenges for Scrapbook Flair Birthday pages, Scrapbook Flair icons and National Scrapbooking Day. I usually award the top winners Editor's Choice over a few weeks time. Often the same members enter those challenges. So, you will see that those members may have more than 1 Editor's Choice award. Of course, with all that said, it is subjective. I like to pick pages with a nice message or pages that are timely depending on what is going on in the world at the time.

However you choose them Rae Ann it's always a nice surprise to receive an award of any description and we all love them. I don't envy you the job of selection but it's always a good choice. I wasn't aware of the 90 days stand-down so that's new to me. Keep up the good work. Hugs, Joce.

I check every time I pick an Editor's choice to see if the member has won an Editor's Choice before. Every once in awhile I break my own rules and give them another Editor's choice if I really like the page. However, after saying, that if you look at the oldest winners (back in 2006 and 2007) before we had over 180,000 members on the site, you will see some members that may have more than 2 Editor's Choice. At that time, we just picked our favorites and didn't worry if they had been won before. And of course anyone who has entered and placed in any of the challenges that I have run, may have multiple Editor's Choice since I have recognized their winning pages in the Editor's Choice Gallery. In the end, it is whatever page catches my eye each week. I do try to pick pages that have been out for more than a week so I do not accidently influence the winning scrapbook for the week. I am biased toward recognizing members that have very few awards and newer members.
