There are several pages on the net saying that they can be repaired dependng on what the problem is. Given that your photo's are on it I would be inclined to go to a reputable computer specialist. Hope this helps x

Even if they can't repair it, they can get your files off for you, place them on a disc and you can upload them on your new external.

My son tells me it can be done but must be by an expert and could cost a fortune depending on the time they have to take. He has advised me to still make use of DVDs for anything very important they are still the safest storage - trouble is you need so many of them.

In the states there is an online service that cost me just $54 per year and it constantly backs up all my files (which has really come in handy this year since a brand new laptop crashed after just 31 days, then locked up about 6 weeks ago and I have to completly wipe the hard drive). All my files were save and sound and just had to go online to re-install them (took 4 days..lol), then re-install my software and I was operational. I would strongly suggest something like that if it is available to you. I use Carbonite, but I know there are other online backup companies available and for $54 I think it is a bargain because I don't have to buy DVDs and worry about a fire (because I've been through that and lost everything in a fire) with online backup I wouldn't have lost everything. Anyway, just a suggestion...Dawn

Lol, that should do it Yvonne. I guess the best is to buy a second disk, using dvd`s is too much time consuming and so many needed

Dawn, what site is that and how much file space does it give you? I have a 500GB external harddrive, and this really scares me since my other computer crashed. Guess it's time to invest in some DVDs and maybe a DVD holder as an extra type of backup.
