MOORE/OKC OKLAHOMA TORNADO 5/20/13
If you’re from the area and are okay, please check in here. My prayers and thoughts go out to all affected by this tornado as well as the one on Sunday.
Hard to believe Oklahoma got hit two days in a row, and this one was so devastating. I was watching TV around 2:30, as it started south of Newcastle. It hadn’t yet formed but was spinning. Then we lost phone, TV and internet at 2:45. I plugged in a small TV/radio but couldn’t get any TV reception, so just sat and listened to the radio.
Finally got the phone back at 9:45PM when my niece called from Indiana. My other niece works at a bank in Moore. They all got into the vault and, when they came out, the bank had been hit.
My neighbor’s wife is a teacher at one of the Moore High Schools. She’s fine but it took her husband 3 hours after it hit before he could get a text message to go through. She’s home now, so I don’t know if they sustained damage but have to assume so as the news now is that 5 schools suffered damage, the worse being two elementary schools, Briarwood and Plaza Towers Elementary Schools.
All are safe from Briarwood but Plaza Towers School and neighborhood took a direct hit. From Plaza Towers School, 7 children are deceased and they are now in the search & recovery mode for 20+ children there who are assumed to be deceased.
My heart aches for the parents who lost their children, but almost even more for those who haven’t received news yet of whether their children are safe or not.
My son and daughter-in-law are both ICU nurses, and are headed up to the Triage Center they have set up to help.
