The Treaty of Waitangi was signed 6th February 1840, The country celebrates this day with a public holiday. Anyone interested to learn further about this part of NZ history can find a lot if info on the net - this is one link -http://www.waitangi-tribunal.govt.nz/treaty/

Brilliant page and info - When I was in Ohau, Hawaii in 2001 I went on a full day trip to the Polynesian center where all the islands where featured including New Zealand and Im sure I read something then about this event.xx
