Operation

Much to my annoyance the hospital cancelled Steve's operation from 20th April to 4th May. Apparently the clinical staff did not know that the surgeon would be away on holiday, which is very odd as we saw him the day before they cancelled and he apparently didn't know he was away either.

MRI results - not all ok

We had an appointment yesterday for his results, and they found a small lump in his mouth at the back of his teeth, now it isn't in the same place as before, which you'd expect it to be, it doesn't look sinister, it is just a small lump. Now Steven's cancer is very fast and aggressive, if this is cancer it has to be a different type as it hasn't changed in two weeks. So atm, no panic, watch it and see what happens is the order of the day, however, it kinda makes you a bit nervous.

Steven's Operation

We have had confirmation today that Steven's operation has finally been given a date: 20 April 2011

He will be in hospital for a minimum of 7-10 days and recovery time afterward is likely to take up to 6 weeks.

But... at least it is finally happening.

history

In 2007, just before his 5th birthday in April, Steven was diagnosed with a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour in the Left maxilla (thats his left nose to you and me!). He had some chemotherapy but when that didn't work he had a swift operation to remove it. Everything was fine for 2 yrs then it reoccured this time right near his left eye, no time to try chemo, it had to be excised quickly to save his sight, which they did. He is now 8 yrs old and needs reconstructive surgery to provide him with a cheekbone and eye socket, and skin graft to cover the site all this is planned for January, however, it is such a complicated procedure that needs a lot of planning, so if it doesn't go ahead in January we won't worry about it. It will happen when the time is right.
