cataloguing photos
What programmes to you use - I only use windows at the moment and just file into years the then new files for each avent. It takes me absolutely ages to find a particular photo - how do you all manage?

Good Morning.. I use Windows Only for my cataloging. I catagorize and subcatagorize similar to what you do. I sometimes create special folders for extra special Occations, such as Graduations, Christmas, Family or School Reunions, but again they will go under the appropriate years. When I anticipate reusing a special photo for scrapping or e-mailing I will keep that in a special folder, with just copies of the originals I intend to use. That way as I make my page and/or do my mailing and/or printing I can then delete the copy. (my originals are stored off of the main hard drive onto either the external drive or a DVD/CD) Hope this helps. Maggie

Thanks Maggie - I do the same except I don't keep a file for special photos. It was just that I know I have a certain picture of a friend and can't find it and thought if I could tab a picture with a name and then be able to call up any with that name at will, I would be laughing. Perhaps you can't have it all!! Lesley x

You can do that. If you have VISTA you can tab each photo with a category and a name. It will search for you. If you have XP You can also tab your own.

Right click on your photo. Choose Properties from the Menu.
Click on the Summary tab at the top.
Fill in the info you wish, click apply and say OK. This should help you when you search for a specific file.
Hope this helps. Maggie

More info for anyone interested:

If you right click on a photo, choose properties, check the Read Only box at the bottom. This will prevent anyone, including you from accidently changing this photograph. If you change your mind at a later date, and choose to make more changes, then you must uncheck that Read Only Box. Sometimes a little accident prevention comes in handy.

Maggie - how do you know all this, I am astounded. But.... having marked the photo, say 'flower' how do I then find it again. Sorry if I am being dense, Lesley x

Lesley, when you enter your info under Summary, you can enter as much info as you wish. You can name your flower the Red Rose or give it any description you want...then when you do a search just search for specific words you used in that description. This should work in either XP or Vista.
