A couple of questions from a beginner!

First, how do you crop a picture so that it is a circle, rather than a rectangle?
Second, can you un-anchor layers/objects? If so, how do you do it?

1. There is an elliptical selection tool in the tool box. It should look like an oval with a dotted line. Use that to select the part of the picture you want. You can make sure it is a perfect circle by looking at the pixel numbers under 'size' on the toolbox as you are selecting your area.
2. I don't know of any way to un-anchor objects - except for undo. However, if you create a new layer (layer menu, click new layer), you can anchor your objects onto those layers. Alternatively, when you paste, you can go into 'edit>paste as>new layer'. This will automatically create a new layer with the pasted object already anchored to it. You can them move the layer around with the move tool.
