About this scrapbook page:
"These are the days when birds come back ... a very few ... a bird or two ... to take a backward look." -- Emily Dickinson

I was just thinking that it may have been more logical to have a modern woman at the forefront, and a Victorian child walking through the archway. But it would not give the same sense of time that I was trying to convey. It's like this Victorian lady is looking at us and telling us that "this, too, shall pass." Spend your days wisely.

I'll be like Mowg and comment on my own page. This speaks to me at such a deep level. The Victorian woman, coming back into time just like the birds. The more modern little child, gently fading, as she will indeed fade in time. The fact that in life, there really are only one or two "birds" who want to give the backward look. But when you find those one or two, how very precious they are.

this fills me with a great sense of nostalgia for people, pets, places, and things of the past that one can only revisit in one's mind, from one's heart. revisiting is a bittersweet tear that's stuck in the throat.

I totally agree with Sarah (Facebook), and Frances, this layout is quite possibly one of the most LOVELY TRIBUTES Emily has ever received! I just purchased this stunning collab last night, and honestly, as I unzipped each file, I seriously considered giving up designing altogether...Smiles...
Love and Hugs!

Sorry, Arthur was another pre-Raphelite. A period of painting I love, idealised and feminists generally deplore it. But oh my, Miss Gentle has the very right insight into their work - often beauty but pain with it.
Why did I write this Gentle, no one will read it or care. Sigh.

I love all the play on light - the autumn leaves, always the dying of one season and the promise of new growth - but it doesn't always play that way in real life. And the dove, the white bird represents to me a kind of hope, that hope can return. I feel quite like a tear looking at this page. A glimpse of Les Mis, I feel.

Wasn't she a most marvellous writer. And this page. Victorian, but the elements in it, bright young child in yellow, older woman, hints of secrets in the trunk, hints of light and shadow - just visualise the words. The way we, like some birds, look back too - so many shadows and lights to look back on.
