Myrna Loy (1905-1993) Loy left school at the age of eighteen to help with the family's finances. She devoted herself fully to an acting career following a few minor roles in silent films. Originally typecast in exotic roles, often as a vamp or she frequently wore yellowface to appear Asian. She became associated with musical roles, and when they began to lose favor with the public, her career went into a slump. About 1935, Loy was one of Hollywood's busiest and highest paid actresses.
