MacKinac Island is a very special place, it's the kind of place that makes you want to whisper. Imagine if you can a place that still to this day has no motor cars (except for emergency cars) The only way to get around is by horse, horse and carriage, bike or by foot. Growing up in Michigan I used to spend a lot of time on the island.

The beaches do not have sand but stones instead. Although in the summer it's warm enough to be on the beach, but you can't swim in the lake, because the water temperature around the Island is never above 32 degrees. The only way to the Island is by airplane or ferry. There are but a few people who live on the Island year round. But, it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and I still visit every year. JS and CR photo is from the SIT website
