Clara Bow was born in 1905.She was the only surviving child of a dysfunctional family afflicted with mental illness.Clara dreamed of being a movie star from an early age.Since she was ignored at home, she spent much of her free time at the movies.In 1921,when she was sixteen, she participated in a contest,the grand prize being a part in a film.Bow was selected as the winner.Bow was praised by critics for her beauty,vitality and enthusiasm but she was treated as a commodity.
