About this scrapbook page: |
Here, I had a very damaged old postcard. The colors were disgusting and paper was moldy in many places. I put the card in black and white and I renovated it. Then I colorized it. - Young ladies wearing less than they should have always been a popular theme for illustrators. For postcard collectors the theme is generically termed Glamour. The range of artists to collect is diverse with the better examples dating from the early 1900's through to the late 1910’s.During the 1914 - 1918

First World War millions of postcards were sent home by troops with the embroidered silk postcard being particularly favoured by both sender and recipient. The birth of Art Nouveau co-incided with the late Victorian boom in illustrated postcards. The humble postcard of that era was the equivalent of todays email or text message, the best examples carrying a superb chromo lithographic image to delight the recipient.
