I'd scrapped the story of the Swamp Fire and my dad's friend's role in naming her, but I've recently found out that he's one of only two surviving crew members of this bird. Earlier in the year, he traveled to Seattle to meet with families of the crews to talk about the Swamp Fire and their accomplishments.
