About this scrapbook page: |
We celebrate Memorial Day here in the US this weekend. The origins of this holiday stem from the American Civil War (1861 – 1865), and the practice of families of the time in visiting the graves of fallen loved ones and decorating them. In its earliest form the commemoration was called Decoration Day. Today it is a day of remembrance for all those that died in our nation’s service.

Becky and I went out to a restaurant today to celebrate her birthday. Our waitress was a young lady—maybe twenty or twenty-one years old — whose Marine husband is scheduled to return from Afghanistan in three weeks. During the course of the meal she returned to our table and was obviously upset. Her husband had texted her to say that he was safe, but a friend of theirs serving with him had just been killed. Remember those that have fallen. Photos are my own

A wonderful tribute page superbly scrapped Mike. The verse and your narrative about the waitress are a poignant reminder of our indebtedness to those who fought for our respective countries in yesteryears and those who fight today and the tomorrows yet to come. An excellent page of remembrance!

Fantastic page and that poor young waitress having such sad news and having to worry about her husband. We do tend to forget in our everyday life about the people who fight for our countries today and yesterdays gone by. Your page is a wonderful memorial page.

Mike, this is an amazing page for Memorial Day. But when you added the waitress' story--Wow. My son-in-law was supposed to go there this past Dec but his unit was reassigned. Chill bumps!
